I Might Be Interested In Civil Air Patrol
(Updates to include Victoria, Corpus Christi, San Marcos, and the Valley Coming Soon)

If you do not live in South Central Texas, check for the closest
CAP Unit at the CAP Unit Locator Page

If you live in South Central Texas, and you are 18 or under:

1) Make plans to visit a CAP squadron near you.  Start by contacting the commander for instructions and information on how to get to the meeting and what night and time the unit meets. The commander may have a special meeting set aside for visitors. If so, you should plan to attend that one. It is best to have a parent/guardian make the first phone call and the arrangements. It is also advisable for a parent/guardian to go with you to visit CAP before you join.

2) There are five squadrons in the San Antonio area for Cadets to join. You may visit any or all of them before deciding which one to join. You may find some are too far to travel, or may meet on a night that doesn't work for you. You may also simply like one over another. Locations and contact information can be found on the main CAP page by using the BACK button at the bottom of this page. If you don't live close to San Antonio, you might try the other areas listed on the page such as San Marcos, Victoria, or Corpus Christi

3) Visit a few times before you join. There is no rush. Don't join until you are ready to apply yourself. CAP is loaded with fun and interesting activities, but it is a program -- not a club. Make sure you are doing it for the right reasons; then go for it!

If you are an adult interested in CAP:

1) If you are a pilot, or are interested in flying for CAP as a non-pilot aircrew member (scanner or observer), I recommend you visit the Bexar County Senior Squadron or Kerrville Senior Squadron. These units focus on CAP's operational missions of Air Search and Rescue; Disaster Relief, and Special Ops. They also have some involvement with ground operations and communications operations. They do not have Cadets, but they often participate in activities that support the Cadet units.

2) Adults are an important part of our Cadet Program and are always needed to help run those programs. Adults work with the Cadets in leadership or administrative roles, but also have the opportunity to participate in CAP's other Emergency Services Missions such as ground search and rescue, communications, and disaster relief. Our Cadet-focused units are at Randolph AFB, Brooks City-Base, Kelly USA, Lackland AFB, and Boerne.  Pilots may be members of Cadet units, but as they do not have aircraft assigned, aircrew must work through the flying squadrons to obtain and maintain qualifications and currency in aircraft and the flying mission.

If you have trouble contacting a squadron, or are dissatisfied with your experience visiting a squadron, please I want to, and need to, know.
